What makes the Comet by Tadpole so exceptional? Each lightweight unit is an untethered, ultra-thin client that provides a mobile platform for server-hosted applications whether Linux, UNIX or Windows based. The Comet utilizes the Sun Ray™ protocol from Sun Microsystems. It has no operating system -- processing takes place on a remote server (shown below). That means no Comet system crashes, no costly software or application upgrading, and no lost data in the event of power failure, hardware failure or system theft. The Comet is 100% compatible and interchangeable with other Sun Ray™ clients and servers for unparalleled flexibility.

SECURITY AND PRODUCTIVITY
The Comet uses SMART cards, username/password combinations and, optionally, external biometric devices for secure and efficient authentication.Users gain access to only those applications, data, and web content to which they have been granted privileges via the Sun Ray™ Server. Tadpole’s Comet family are the only ultra-thin clients with the option of FIPS140-2 security from Fortress Technologies. The FIPS140-2 security option provides strong 256-bit AES encryption at the Level 2 networking layer, and is fully compatible with security gateways from Fortress Technologies. And because the Comet has no operating system, it is immune to virus and worm attacks. With these features, a single Comet can serve multiple users without loss of security or productivity.

The Comet features 802.11a/b/g technology for maximum wireless flexibility. Its Smart Lithium-Ion battery pack and low power consuming electronics ensure long operating times. If a battery fails, simply replace it or connect to power. There are no lengthy boot times and your desktop session continues un-interrupted.

Comet 15 Comet computers are 100% compatible with Sun Ray™ ultra-thin client from Sun Microsystems, while adding mobility & wireless networking. Comet computers share a chassis with the SPARCLE product family, giving users interchangeability between batteries and chargers. Since Comet notebooks are un-tethered and completely stateless, they can be assigned to users "on-the-fly". This allows a company to have fewer units — only as many as there are active people. Comet notebooks have very long battery life (6-8 hours with the optional external battery pack), and can be used anywhere within range of a wireless access point. Like all Sun Ray™ thin clients, they support smart cards for secure identification & global session management. Sun Ray™ ultra-thin clients have no local processing — everything is done on the server, including backup. Sun Ray ultra-thin clients are "plug-and-work", no software loading or updating, and no system crashes. Windows® may be opened to Solaris™, Linux and Windows applications (using third party tools).
